A Lasting Legacy
Included in a DNA Profile: This full-color, spiral bound booklet contains all the DNA information on your loved one.
• Color Photo with name, date of birth and date of death
• STR DNA Profile - a graph with the DNA encoding
• Explanation of Profile - Ten genetic markers are analyzed from your loved one’s DNA; three blue markers, four green markers and three yellow markers. A marker is a specific segment of DNA.
Each marker contains two loci (a position located on a chromosome), which are represented by a plot located on the previous page. A number representative of each loci is placed under each
peak on the plot. The two numbers for each marker are derived from the parents of your loved one. These markers allow for conclusive determination of identity.
The numbers represent a stably inherited region of DNA in which we are able to determine identity. A table summarizing the ten
genetic markers is shown on the previous page. Included is a sex determining marker (XX or XY).
The plot and table summarizing your loved one’s DNA profile are obtained from the gel image
shown on the graph. This image contains all ten genetic markers plus an internal size standard for precise allele numbering.
The probability of identity is also calculated. This number represents the number of people one would have to survey in order to see your loved one’s DNA profile appear again, based on the above ten genetic markers.
